- If the food at St Tropez Bistro was decidedly good so also was the atmosphere — classy yet with a dash of art deco warmth which appealed enormously.

- In my mind, French food is about as decadent as it gets. So following a particularly stressful week, an evening at St Tropez Bistrot, once voted the country's best French restaurant, seemed like the perfect balm.
- And so it was. I started to unwind as soon as I hit the cushy bench seat and picked up the wine list. By the time my glass of Château Belingard, bergerac blanc, Bordeaux ($7), arrived I was just about purring.

- A turde-necked Fepe Le Pew was wooing in the cosy ambiance of St Tropez Bistrot when we visited on a Saturday night, and why wouldn't he? There are comparatively few French bistrots in this city, and this could be the best of them, with amiable service and adroitly-realised, if classically buttery, French.
- The dishes, like the plump little forestière mushroom crêpe entrée that cornes parcelled up and tethered with greenery, are artfully plated, and the wine-list's smattering of Rhône valley reds is especially commendable.
- Very reasonable prices.
